Delhi Mother Donates Kidney to Save Son’s Life
In a rare and inspiring medical case, 80-year-old Darshana Jain gave her kidney to her 59-year-old son, Rajesh, who was battling end-stage renal disease. Her selfless act gave him a new lease on life.
A Mother’s Unwavering Love
Rajesh, a businessman from Rohini, Delhi, was diagnosed with kidney disease two years ago. Both his mother and son offered to donate their kidneys. After medical tests, doctors found his mother’s kidney to be a perfect match.
Initially, Rajesh hesitated. He was concerned about his mother’s age and worried about society’s perception. However, as his health deteriorated, his family convinced him to reconsider. Eventually, he agreed to the transplant.
Successful Surgery at BLK-Max Hospital
A multidisciplinary team led by Dr. H S Bhatyal, senior director and head of urology and renal transplant at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, performed the surgery.
Dr. Bhatyal emphasized that age should not be a barrier to organ donation if the donor is medically fit. He stated that this case showcased both the advancements in medicine and a mother’s incredible spirit.
Quick Recovery and a New Beginning
Darshana Jain was discharged on the fourth day after surgery, while Rajesh was discharged on the sixth day. He is currently on doctor-advised bed rest for three months to ensure a full recovery.
Rajesh expressed immense gratitude for his mother’s sacrifice, calling it a “second birth”. His story highlights the power of maternal love and medical progress, inspiring countless others.
