A video of a Pakistani woman celebrating her divorce by throwing a party and dancing has ignited a mixed reaction on social media, challenging traditional views on divorce.
The viral video shows the woman, dressed in a purple lehenga, joyfully dancing to popular Bollywood songs while her friends cheer her on and shower her with banknotes.
The party decor features balloons with the phrase “Divorce Mubarak,” which means “Congratulations on the divorce.”
According to the Pakistan-based daily Minute Mirror, the video was filmed in America. The woman, who owns a store in the US, has not disclosed the reason for her separation.
Online reactions to the video have been mixed. Some praised her for courageously leaving an unhealthy relationship, while others criticized her actions.
One user commented, “Today I had a fever and did not feel like opening Twitter, but when I opened Twitter, I saw that a divorce party is going on here. I am very happy to see this. Marriage is the biggest evil after capitalism and religion.”
Another remarked, “Building relationships is the toughest thing to do and takes years. Breaking relationships is the easiest thing to do, and just takes a few seconds. Now things like divorce are celebrated and made a fashion statement.”
However, some were critical of the celebration. One user, using the hashtag “#FeminismIsCancer,” stated, “Some clowns ex-wife enjoying after divorce party by spending his hard-earned money which became her #1CroreAlimony.”
Another comment read, “Call me judgmental or whatever but I can’t believe my eyes, this woman is dancing and throwing a divorce party saying ‘DIVORCE MUBARAK???’ FR??? What is going on this planet, when Islam clearly tells us that it’s the MOST DISLIKED Halal deed in front of Allah SWT!!”
