Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, engaged in a discussion with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday concerning the unfolding crisis in Bangladesh.
According to informed sources, Gandhi’s informal conversation with the Minister occurred shortly after the Lok Sabha session adjourned.
Numerous MPs from different parties expressed their worries over the situation in India’s eastern neighbor, triggered by the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid large-scale protests against her administration.
Congress MP Manish Tewari described the situation as sensitive and evolving, expressing hope that the government would address the issue in both Houses of Parliament on Tuesday.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi emphasized the need for the Union government to safeguard the interests of Indians in Bangladesh.
“The instability is regrettable, especially given Bangladesh’s long-standing alliance with India and their positive growth trajectory. If they descend into anarchy, it will negatively impact our strategic interests,” Chaturvedi stated.
Mamata Banerjee urged the people of Bengal to avoid provocation amidst the crisis in Bangladesh.
“I trust our Prime Minister and Foreign Minister will protect the interests of Indians there and strive to restore stability,” she added.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Sasmit Patra expressed confidence that the Government of India would prioritize India’s concerns.
In contrast, the Left parties criticized Sheikh Hasina’s government.
CPI(M) leader V. Sivadasan attributed the crisis to the economic downturn, rising unemployment, and the government’s failure to provide jobs to the youth. He also cited the government’s authoritarian approach as a contributing factor.
CPI leader P. Sandosh Kumar welcomed Hasina’s resignation, calling her an “autocrat.”
“The election in Bangladesh earlier this year was marred by rigging and violence, proving that autocrats cannot sustain their rule indefinitely. While her resignation is a positive step, it should not create an opportunity for religious fundamentalists to intervene, which the global community must ensure,” Kumar added.
