Delhi Minister Atishi will become the new Chief Minister after Arvind Kejriwal resigns. This change follows a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena this afternoon. The decision was finalized during an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders’ meeting today.
At the AAP meeting, party leader Dilip Pandey suggested that Kejriwal choose his successor. When AAP national convener proposed Atishi’s name, all AAP MLAs supported the decision. Consequently, She was elected leader of the legislature party.

Currently, Atishi manages important portfolios like education and Public Works Department (PWD) in the Delhi government. An Oxford University alumna and Rhodes scholar, She has been instrumental in reforming education in Delhi’s schools.
Atishi, an MLA from Kalkaji, stepped into a ministerial role after Manish Sisodia’s arrest in a corruption case related to Delhi’s former liquor policy. During the period when Kejriwal and Sisodia were in custody, Atishi represented the party’s stance.
On August 15, Kejriwal had selected Atishi to hoist the tricolour at the Delhi government’s Independence Day event. Although Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena thwarted this plan, it highlighted the AAP leadership’s confidence in her.
