Emmanuel Sorob’s 9,000 km Bicycle Ride to Save Wildlife
Have you ever heard of someone cycling 9,000 km to protect wildlife? Emmanuel Sorob, a conservationist, has taken on this challenge.
Emmanuel is passionate about wildlife and nature. He decided to cycle from Cairo to Cape Town to raise awareness about the poaching crisis. His goal is to stop the illegal killing of wildlife, especially elephants and rhinos.
Goal of the Bicycle Tour
Poaching remains widespread in Africa. People hunt animals for sport and trade their parts in both legal and black markets. Ivory trade is banned in many countries like China and the U.S., but poachers continue to kill elephants for ivory in countries like Vietnam and Thailand. Around 20,000 elephants are killed in Africa every year.
Rhinos also face extinction because of poaching. Poachers kill them for their horns. Reports show that over 7,100 rhinos were killed in the last decade in Africa. In 2023, 499 rhinos were poached, marking an increase from the previous year.
Starting the Wildlife Journey
As a conservationist, Emmanuel is concerned about the decline in wildlife. He believes educating people can help reduce poaching. So, he started his cycling journey to raise awareness. His tour will connect with communities, governments, and organizations to rally support for wildlife protection.
Emmanuel’s bicycle journey highlights the urgency of wildlife conservation and calls on everyone to act before it’s too late.
