Punjab Vigilance Bureau Cracks Down on Corruption: Police Sub-Inspector Arrested for Bribery
Chandigarh, October 30, 2024 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) intensified its anti-corruption campaign with the arrest of Police Sub-Inspector Mandeep Singh, who was apprehended while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. This arrest, conducted on Tuesday, demonstrates the Bureau’s commitment to combating corruption within law enforcement and upholding integrity in the state.
Bribery Allegations and Complaint Details
The arrest followed a formal complaint by Vineet Kumar, a resident of Ludhiana. Kumar reported that Singh, who was in charge of the Nabipur police post under the Sirhind police station in Fatehgarh Sahib district, demanded a bribe to release his two private ambulances involved in a road accident with a truck. Initially, Singh asked for Rs 25,000 to resolve the issue, but after negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 20,000. According to Kumar, Singh had already accepted an initial payment of Rs 5,000.
Vigilance Bureau’s Swift Response
Upon receiving the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau promptly initiated a preliminary investigation through its Economic Offences Wing (EOW). After verifying the claims, an EOW team set up a trap to catch Singh red-handed. As Singh accepted the remaining Rs 15,000 from Kumar, he was immediately apprehended, with two official witnesses present to confirm the transaction.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Following the arrest, a case was registered against Mandeep Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau’s EOW police station in Ludhiana range. The Bureau has stated that further investigation is ongoing to determine whether others may have been involved or if there are additional cases linked to this incident.
Vigilance Bureau’s Dedication to Eradicating Corruption
This arrest underscores the Punjab Vigilance Bureau’s active stance against corruption within government institutions. By encouraging citizens to report misconduct, the Bureau aims to promote transparency and accountability across the state.
Through such vigilant actions, the Bureau reinforces its commitment to a fair and corruption-free administration, signaling a zero-tolerance policy that strengthens public trust.
