Mohammed Shami Recovers, But Excluded From Test Series
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Mohammed Shami will not play in the final two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite recovering fully from a heel injury, swelling in his left knee has delayed his return.
Recovery Progress and Recent Matches
Shami bowled 43 overs in a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal in November. He then participated in all nine games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). Alongside these matches, he engaged in additional bowling sessions to prepare for Test cricket.
Medical Evaluation and Knee Swelling
The BCCI’s medical team confirmed Shami’s recovery from heel surgery. However, they noted minor swelling in his left knee due to increased bowling workload.
“Swelling is expected after prolonged activity,” the BCCI statement read. “His knee needs more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads.”
Focus on Rehabilitation
Shami will continue strength and conditioning exercises under the medical team at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. His progress will determine his participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Series Status
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy remains tied at 1-1. While Shami’s absence is a setback, the team is optimistic about his recovery and long-term fitness.
