The BJP on Monday attacked Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, calling him “Advertisement Baba.” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that Kejriwal’s government spent more on advertisements than on public welfare schemes.
Patra, during a press conference, said, “Kejriwal should be called ‘Advertisement Baba’ from today. For the ‘Business Blasters’ scheme, the Delhi government spent ₹54 crore. But, shockingly, the advertisement for the scheme cost ₹80 crore.”
He also pointed to another scheme where the government invested ₹1.9 crore, but the ad expenses shot up to ₹27.9 crore. Patra claimed the figures were taken from a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
BJP Criticizes CM Residence Renovation
The BJP MP also hit out at Kejriwal over the renovation of his official residence, which they dubbed the “Sheesh Mahal.”
According to Patra, the renovation was initially estimated to cost ₹7.61 crore. However, the final expense soared to ₹33.66 crore — over 342% more than the original estimate.
Patra said the Public Works Department (PWD) proposed the renovation on March 17, 2020, and surprisingly, the proposal was approved the very next day.
CAG Raises Red Flags
The CAG report questioned the tendering process for the project. It revealed that the tender amount of ₹8.62 crore was already 13.21% higher than the initial estimate. Despite this, the project’s final cost far exceeded expectations.
Patra alleged that the renovation happened during the Covid-19 pandemic, a time when public development projects were halted. “Such a big scam was committed for Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘Sheesh Mahal,’” he remarked.
The BJP continues to criticize Kejriwal’s governance, alleging that public funds are being misused for personal benefits. The party demanded accountability and transparency from the Delhi government.
