Kejriwal Alleges BJP’s Secret CM Pick, Calls for Public Debate
With the Delhi Assembly polls around the corner, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal intensified his attack on the BJP. He alleged that the BJP is hesitant to announce its chief ministerial candidate because it fears losing the elections.
Kejriwal claimed that the BJP’s Central Election Committee has finalized former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri as their CM face. “Sources tell us his name will be announced in a day or two. I congratulate Mr. Bidhuri and urge him to share his work as an MP and his vision for Delhi,” Kejriwal said during a press conference.
The AAP leader also challenged Bidhuri to a public debate once his candidature is officially confirmed. “Let the people of Delhi see the difference between our visions,” Kejriwal added.
BJP Fires Back: ‘Our Face Is the Lotus Symbol’
BJP leaders dismissed Kejriwal’s claims, saying the party doesn’t need a chief ministerial face. BJP spokesperson RP Singh said, “Our face is the lotus symbol. Our workers are taking the message of clean governance to every household in Delhi.”
Singh also reminded Kejriwal of the bail conditions imposed on him in the Delhi liquor policy case. “The court has barred Kejriwal from acting as chief minister. He cannot sign files, enter the CM office, or hold meetings as CM. The order is still in force,” Singh said.
Singh didn’t hold back on criticism, referencing the controversial renovations at Kejriwal’s residence, dubbed Sheeshmahal by the opposition. He accused Kejriwal of prioritizing luxury over governance.
Bidhuri’s Controversial Past
Ramesh Bidhuri’s alleged selection as BJP’s CM candidate comes with a fair share of controversies. He made headlines in 2023 for using Islamophobic slurs against Amroha MP Danish Ali, sparking national outrage.
More recently, Bidhuri stirred controversy with remarks about Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks and AAP leader Atishi’s surname change. These comments earned him a reprimand from the BJP, and he later issued an apology.
As Delhi prepares for the high-stakes polls on February 5, both AAP and BJP are ramping up their campaigns. While AAP projects Kejriwal as a tested leader, BJP is banking on its party symbol — the lotus — to make a mark.
The political battlefield in Delhi is heating up, and all eyes are on the BJP’s next move. Will they announce Bidhuri as their CM face, or will they continue to rely solely on their symbol? The people of Delhi are watching.
