AIMIM’s Entry Sparks Political Tensions in Okhla
Okhla is buzzing with election fever. Accusations and counter-accusations are shaping the political narrative. AIMIM’s debut in the constituency has raised the stakes, making the race more intense.
Both Congress and AAP accuse AIMIM of splitting Muslim votes. They claim this benefits the BJP directly.
AIMIM’s newly appointed Delhi State President, Shoaib Jamai, is leading a strong campaign. He has targeted Congress’s candidate, Ariba Khan, raising questions about her nomination. Ariba, daughter of former MLA Asif Mohammad Khan, is also the niece of Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.
Shoaib Jamai questioned Congress’s choice to replace Ishrat Jahan with Ariba. He praised Ishrat for her leadership during the anti-NRC protests and accused Congress of trying to appease Hindutva voters with Ariba’s nomination.
In a late-night interview, Jamai described AIMIM’s candidate, Shifaur Rahman, as a beacon of hope for Okhla. He urged Ariba to step aside in support of Rahman if she genuinely wants to defeat BJP.
Jamai also claimed to have evidence of Asif Md Khan’s alleged dealings with BJP. He did not disclose details but said these would come to light soon.
A Fierce Battle for Votes
The fight for Okhla’s vote bank is fierce. Both Shifaur Rahman and Amanatullah Khan are from Satla, while Ariba Khan holds sway over voters from Western Uttar Pradesh. Analysts predict a tough battle in the upcoming Delhi elections.
BJP has fielded Manish Chaudhry, a strong candidate with broad appeal. His presence adds another challenge for traditional parties.
Amanatullah Khan, the incumbent MLA, seeks a third consecutive win. Since defeating Asif Md Khan in 2015, he has secured significant victories. Okhla was once a Congress stronghold, but AAP’s rise changed the political landscape.
AIMIM’s Mission
Jamai reiterated AIMIM’s commitment to uplifting marginalised communities. The party’s focus remains on justice, development, and giving a voice to the oppressed.
As AIMIM gains momentum in Okhla, it presents itself as a fresh alternative. The upcoming election will reveal whether voters are ready to embrace change or stick with familiar faces.
