Congress Defends Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks
The Congress has accused the BJP of distorting Rahul Gandhi’s recent statement about “fighting against the Indian state.” The party clarified that Gandhi referred to the constitutional definition of ‘State’ under Article 12 of the Constitution.
At a press conference in Delhi, senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel criticized the BJP. He alleged that the ruling party manipulates central agencies and dominates institutions classified as ‘State’ under the Constitution.
The Controversy Explained
The issue arose after Rahul Gandhi’s speech during the inauguration of Congress’ new headquarters in Delhi. Gandhi accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP of taking control of “every institution” in the country. He also responded to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement claiming that true independence was achieved with the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Gandhi highlighted that the Congress headquarters symbolizes the sacrifices of millions who fought for India’s independence.
BJP’s Response
BJP president JP Nadda responded sharply to Gandhi’s remarks. He accused Gandhi of supporting forces that weaken India. Nadda claimed, “Congress has a history of compromising national integrity for power.” He linked Gandhi’s comments to “Urban Naxals” and the “deep state.”
Baghel Hits Back
Bhupesh Baghel dismissed BJP’s allegations. He accused the party of undermining democratic institutions like the Election Commission of India (ECI) and misusing agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Income Tax Department, and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Baghel also criticized the RSS, stating, “While the Constitution stands for justice, equality, and democracy, the RSS does not support these values.” He further claimed that BJP governments function as extensions of the RSS.
The Congress has vowed to continue its fight to uphold democratic values and constitutional principles.
