Bollywood Actor Saif Ali Khan Stabbed in Bandra Home
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra West home early Thursday morning. The intruder, armed with a knife, demanded a ransom of ₹1 crore, as revealed by a domestic staff member.
The attack injured Saif Ali Khan, 54, and two staff members. The actor suffered six stab wounds, including a severe injury to his spinal cord. His son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, rushed him to Lilavati Hospital in an auto-rickshaw after their car was delayed. Doctors have confirmed that Khan’s condition is now stable.
Intruder Entered Through Adjacent Building
The assailant entered the high-profile residence through an adjacent building. CCTV footage captured the man in a T-shirt and jeans with an orange scarf. The first to spot the intruder was Eliyama Phillipes, a maid employed by the Khan household. She confronted him, leading to injuries to her wrists and hands as he demanded ₹1 crore.
Her screams alerted Saif Ali Khan, who tried to fend off the attacker but was stabbed multiple times. A fragment of the knife lodged in his spine, requiring extensive surgery. Doctors repaired additional deep wounds on his neck and left hand.
Security Lapses Under Scrutiny
The incident has raised questions about the security at the building. How the intruder bypassed guards and entered the Khan residence undetected remains a critical focus of the investigation.
The Mumbai Police have registered a case under sections related to robbery, trespassing, and grievous hurt. The suspect is still at large.
Political Reactions and Public Concerns
The attack has sparked a heated political debate. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the incident “unfortunate” but denied claims that Mumbai is unsafe. Opposition leaders, including Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, questioned public safety. “If celebrities aren’t safe, who in Mumbai is?” she remarked.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also criticized the BJP-led state government, demanding stronger security measures.
Final Word
While Saif Ali Khan recovers, the shocking attack highlights the urgent need for improved residential security in Mumbai. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to apprehend the suspect and prevent future incidents.
