LG Launches Campaign Against Illegal Immigrants in Delhi
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has instructed the Delhi Police Commissioner to identify Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants living in Delhi. This action follows an attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan in Mumbai, reportedly involving a Bangladeshi national.
Attack Sparks Action
The accused allegedly broke into Khan’s Mumbai home and stabbed him multiple times. Investigations revealed the attacker was living under a false identity and working at a restaurant. The incident highlighted concerns about illegal immigrants employed without proper verification.
Organized Syndicates Under Scrutiny
The LG’s office noted that many illegal immigrants find work as laborers or domestic help at wages below the minimum rate. Organized groups allegedly facilitate their settlement using forged documents like Aadhaar, voter IDs, and ration cards.
Special Campaign and Public Awareness
The LG directed the police to launch a mission-mode campaign to identify illegal immigrants. Public awareness programs will encourage verification of workers, domestic helpers, and construction laborers. Resident Welfare Associations and market associations will also be sensitized.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
The directive includes action against those who avoid the verification process or provide employment and housing to illegal immigrants. Authorities aim to curb criminal and illegal activities linked to unverified individuals.
This proactive step follows the growing concerns about security risks posed by illegal immigrants in Delhi.
