
Case Registered Against BJP MLA Munirathna
Bengaluru police have registered a case against BJP MLA Munirathna and six others for allegedly demolishing homes in a slum near Peenya’s Akkamahadevi Layout. The incident occurred without prior notice, according to a complaint filed by a resident.
Allegations in the Complaint
The complainant alleged that Munirathna and his associates arrived with a JCB machine and demolished the homes of around 60 families. These families, mostly daily wage laborers, lost cash ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹70,000 per household and approximately 30 grams of gold during the demolition.
The FIR also claims that Munirathna personally oversaw the operation. Residents who protested were reportedly threatened and told to vacate the area and return to North Karnataka.
Alleged Assault
The complaint further alleged physical assault during the incident. Women were reportedly dragged, kicked with footwear, and subjected to threats. Some were physically assaulted when they pleaded for mercy.
Charges Filed
Based on the complaint, police have filed a case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including:
- Section 324(2): Mischief
- Section 74: Assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty
- Section 351(2): Criminal intimidation
- Section 190: Unlawful assembly
Additional charges under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Ordinance, 2014, have also been included.
