Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat faced a surprising setback on Thursday morning during the municipal elections in Dehradun. When he arrived at the polling station to cast his vote, he discovered his name was missing from the voter list.
Mr. Rawat, a resident of Dehradun’s Niranjanpur area, had previously voted from the same location in the Lok Sabha and 2022 Assembly elections. However, his name had inexplicably disappeared from the list this time. Speaking to PTI, he expressed disappointment and frustration, stating, “I have been waiting since morning, but my name was not found at the polling station where I voted earlier.”
He accused the BJP of tampering with voter lists and remarked, “I should have been more cautious, knowing their involvement in adding and removing names from the rolls.”
When Mr. Rawat approached the State Election Commission, he was informed that a computer server malfunction was responsible. As a result, he couldn’t vote for his preferred candidate.
Municipal elections are underway across Uttarakhand, covering 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils, and 46 Nagar Panchayats.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged citizens to vote and support BJP candidates. “I appeal to the people of Uttarakhand to help BJP form a triple-engine government,” he said, highlighting the party’s vision for the state’s development.
The incident involving Harish Rawat has raised questions about voter list management and transparency during the elections.
