EC to Kejriwal: Prove Yamuna Poison Claim or Face Action
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal to submit a detailed response to his claim that the Haryana government poisoned the Yamuna. The poll body stated that his remarks could create disharmony.
Kejriwal must respond by 11 AM on January 31. If he fails to do so, the EC warned that it will take action without further notice.
EC: Kejriwal’s Remarks Could Create Division
In its letter, the Election Commission stated that Kejriwal’s comments could fuel unrest.
“Your statement about the Yamuna poisoning promotes disharmony and enmity between different groups,” the letter read.
The poll body also cautioned Kejriwal, saying his remarks could damage relations between Haryana and Delhi residents.
“As a former chief minister, you should understand the serious consequences of such claims,” the commission wrote.
EC Demands Proof of Allegations
The EC has asked Kejriwal to provide specific evidence, including:
- The type of poison allegedly mixed in the Yamuna
- Any scientific proof supporting his claim
- The exact location where contamination was found
- The role of Delhi Jal Board engineers in detecting the issue
The commission also stressed that his reply should only address these concerns and not be linked to rising ammonia levels in the river.
Kejriwal Hits Back, Calls EC Politically Biased
Reacting to the notice, Kejriwal accused the EC of political bias. He claimed the commission ignored election malpractices in Delhi while targeting him unfairly.
“The EC turns a blind eye to cash and blankets being distributed in Delhi. But when I raise concerns, they go after me. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar wants a post-retirement job. History will not forgive him,” Kejriwal said at a press conference.
He also criticized the EC’s language, saying it was inappropriate for an independent body.
“If Rajiv Kumar wants to do politics, he should contest elections. I will send three bottles of Yamuna water to the EC. If they drink it, I will accept I was wrong,” he added.
With the deadline approaching, all eyes are on Kejriwal’s response. Will he submit evidence or escalate the political fight further?
