BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma Receives Death Threat, Police Investigate
BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma from Dharamshala has received a death threat through a handwritten letter. The letter, sent via ordinary post, was delivered to his residence in Rakkar village, Dharamshala. It contained threats against him and his family.
Police Begin Investigation
Following the incident, Sharma’s PA, Shubham Sood, filed a police complaint at the Dharamshala police station. Reports suggest the letter was posted from Daulatpur in Una district.
Kangra ASP Bir Bahadur confirmed the complaint. “The letter was shown to the police, and we have taken it into our possession. A dedicated team is working to trace its origin. Since it is handwritten, we are hopeful of identifying the sender soon,” he stated.
Not the First Threat
This is not the first time Sharma has received a threat. Last year, he and another disqualified MLA, Rajinder Rana, reportedly received similar letters. In February 2024, Sharma also claimed to have received a death threat from a gangster, prompting authorities to increase his security.
Political Background
Sudhir Sharma was one of six Congress MLAs who cross-voted in favor of the BJP candidate during the Rajya Sabha polls in February 2024. As a result, they were disqualified for violating the party whip. Later, they joined the BJP and contested bypolls under the party’s banner. Sharma successfully retained his Dharamshala seat in the election.
The police investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure Sharma and his family’s safety.
