Punjab’s Public Works Department (PWD) is currently executing 250 building projects worth ₹2000 crore. These projects span 15 client departments and focus on improving infrastructure across the state.
PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO emphasized that healthcare infrastructure is a priority. The department is constructing 18 Child Care Blocks (₹264 crore) and 18 Integrated Public Health Laboratories, with four already under construction. Around 420 Aam Aadmi Clinics have been built, and medical colleges in Malerkotla, Sangrur, SAS Nagar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, and Moga will receive ₹3000 crore in the FY 2025-26.
Education is another key focus area. The PWD is working on 56 Schools of Eminence. Nineteen are under construction, and ten have been completed. These schools aim to provide high-quality education infrastructure for all students.
Judicial infrastructure has also received a boost. The government has approved ₹250 crore for judicial projects in 2024-25. Major developments include new Judicial Court Complexes in Khanna, Patran, and Fazilka. These complexes will feature courtrooms, residential spaces, and computer rooms. Additionally, ₹40 crore has been allocated for the upkeep of government buildings and quarters.
The PWD has also contributed to state monuments and public buildings. The Architectural Wing is designing green buildings and improving accessibility with ramps, lifts, and escalators for persons with disabilities.
With these developments, Punjab’s infrastructure is set for a major transformation, ensuring better facilities for residents.
