CM Stalin Warns of Delimitation Threat, Calls for Political Unity
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the state’s concerns over Lok Sabha delimitation. He claimed Tamil Nadu could lose eight seats due to its successful population control measures. Speaking after a Cabinet meeting in Chennai, he urged political parties to set aside differences and unite for the state’s rights.
“Tamil Nadu has led in development and population control, yet we are now facing the threat of losing our parliamentary representation. Our voice in Parliament is being stifled,” Stalin said.
He stated that around 40 political parties registered with the Election Commission have been invited to the discussion.
BJP’s Response: Delimitation Fears Are Imaginary
BJP state president K Annamalai dismissed Stalin’s concerns, calling them “fear-mongering”. He claimed the Chief Minister was shifting the narrative after public rejection of his stance on the three-language policy.
“When PM Narendra Modi has clearly said delimitation—if and when it happens—will be fair to all, why create panic?” Annamalai wrote on X.
He challenged Stalin to reveal if the delimitation issue was raised in Parliament, announced by the PM, or based on any official document. Until then, he said the BJP may not attend the March 5 meeting.
Stalin Reignites ‘Language War’ Over Hindi Imposition
When asked about the three-language policy and alleged Hindi imposition, Stalin accused the Centre of trying to revive a language war similar to the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation.
“Yes, we are ready for it. Tamil Nadu will not accept Hindi imposition,” he declared.
The DMK has consistently opposed the three-language policy and insisted that Tamil and English are sufficient for the state. Stalin accused the BJP-led NDA government of forcing Hindi onto Tamil Nadu, a claim the Centre has denied.
What’s at Stake for Tamil Nadu?
Stalin warned that if delimitation reduces Tamil Nadu’s Lok Sabha seats, the state would be further disadvantaged in central fund allocations and national decision-making.
“If our seats are reduced, our representation will weaken. This is not about politics but about Tamil Nadu’s rights,” he said.
With the political debate heating up, the March 5 meeting is expected to be a crucial moment in Tamil Nadu’s ongoing battle for fair representation and language rights.
