
Princess Astrid of Belgium Arrives in India for Economic Mission
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal extended a warm welcome to Belgium’s Princess Astrid upon her arrival in India on Sunday. The minister greeted her with a bouquet of white orchids as delegations from both sides exchanged pleasantries.
Strengthening India-Belgium Ties
Princess Astrid, the sister of Belgium’s King Philippe, is visiting India from March 2 to March 8. Her itinerary includes meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. She will also visit key states, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Delhi, as per the External Affairs Ministry (MEA).
Belgium’s High-Level Economic Mission
Belgium’s Ambassador to India, Didier Vanderhasselt, highlighted that Princess Astrid is leading an economic mission with a 335-member delegation, including representatives from 180 companies. Belgium’s Foreign Minister, Maxime Prevot, will also accompany the delegation.
“This is the highest-level format we have, led by Her Highness Princess Astrid as the representative of the king. Our new Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister will also be part of this mission,” said Vanderhasselt.

The Belgian delegation will participate in at least 14 seminars and conferences, focusing on sectors such as:

The Belgian envoy emphasized India’s growing economic importance, stating, “India is experiencing an impressive annual growth rate of 5-7%. Strengthening economic ties with India is a top priority for Belgium and the European Union.”
With high-profile meetings and strategic collaborations planned, Princess Astrid’s visit is expected to deepen economic and diplomatic ties between India and Belgium.
