BJP MPs Update Address, Highlight ‘Swami Vivekananda Marg’
BJP MPs Dinesh Sharma and Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar have updated their nameplates at their official residences on Tughlaq Lane, Delhi. They prominently displayed ‘Swami Vivekananda Marg,’ with ‘Tughlaq Lane’ written in brackets below.
Housewarming and Justification
Dinesh Sharma, a Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister, shared pictures of his new residence after a housewarming ceremony. He clarified that the name ‘Swami Vivekananda Marg’ appears on Google Maps and insisted that he did not change the road’s name.
“No MP can rename a road. There is a proper authority for that,” Sharma told PTI.
Renaming Process and BJP’s Proposals
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) oversees name changes for roads in central Delhi. A 13-member council evaluates requests based on historical significance and public sentiment.
Since returning to power, BJP leaders have proposed renaming several areas in Delhi, such as:
Current Name | Proposed Name |
---|---|
Najafgarh | Nahargarh |
Mohammadpur | Madhavpuram |
Mustafabad | Shivpuri |
Previously, Aurangzeb Road was renamed after Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in 2015, and Race Course Road became Lok Kalyan Marg in 2016.
