The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delivered a crushing defeat to the Congress in the Haryana local body elections, winning 9 out of 10 mayoral seats. The ruling party triumphed in key cities like Gurugram and Rohtak, the stronghold of senior Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda.
The only exception was Manesar, where Dr. Inderjit Yadav, an independent candidate and rebel BJP leader, secured victory.
BJP’s Landslide Victory
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini hailed the win, calling it a mandate for a ‘triple-engine’ government. “The people have put their stamp of approval on our governance. This victory strengthens our mission for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India),” he said.
Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda echoed the sentiment, promising accelerated development in the state.
Congress’ Struggles Continue
The Congress, still recovering from its assembly election loss, contested multiple seats under its party symbol. The most anticipated battle was for the Gurugram mayor’s post, where it faced a direct fight against the BJP.
The BJP deployed heavyweights like Nayab Saini and Delhi Mayor Rekha Gupta, while Congress fielded Bhupinder Hooda and Sachin Pilot. Despite a fierce campaign, the outcome was one-sided.

Additionally, 26 ward members won unopposed, including candidates in Faridabad, Gurugram, Karnal, and Yamunanagar.
With this sweeping victory, the BJP has further solidified its dominance in Haryana, leaving the Congress struggling for a comeback.
