AAP Pledges Free Water and Electricity for Renters
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced a new scheme to provide renters in Delhi with free water and electricity benefits if re-elected. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal made this promise during a press conference on Saturday.
Focus on Renters’ Needs
Kejriwal stated that renters often miss out on key subsidies available to homeowners. “Wherever I go, renters tell me they benefit from free bus rides, mohalla clinics, and hospitals but don’t get free water and electricity,” he said.
He emphasized that most renters in Delhi belong to the Purvanchali community and face financial challenges. “Many buildings house around 100 people, and the lack of subsidies impacts them significantly,” he added.
Other Promises for Delhi Residents
On Friday, Kejriwal promised free bus services for male students and a 50% discount on metro fares if AAP forms the government again. Currently, women can travel for free in Delhi Transport Corporation buses.
Upcoming Welfare Schemes
AAP has also outlined other welfare programs, including:
- Mahila Samman Yojana: ₹2,100 for women.
- Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana: ₹18,000 monthly honorarium for temple priests and Gurudwara granthis.
Election Details
Delhi will vote in a single phase on February 5, with results declared on February 8. Kejriwal’s announcements aim to address the needs of renters and strengthen AAP’s position in the upcoming elections.
