Dramatic scenes unfolded outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence today. AAP leaders arrived to counter BJP’s ‘Sheeshmahal’ allegations with evidence.
The BJP accused Kejriwal of spending public funds on lavish upgrades to his 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow. To disprove these claims, AAP leaders planned a media tour of the bungalow, followed by a visit to the Prime Minister’s residence on 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
However, police blocked AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj from entering the bungalow, citing law and order concerns. Singh argued that stopping them violated parliamentary privileges. “If BJP claims there’s a golden toilet or minibar, let the media see for themselves,” he said.
Bharadwaj questioned the authority behind the police action. “Who directed you to stop us? Only the Lieutenant Governor is above me,” he remarked.
Singh accused BJP of lying, saying, “They claimed a golden toilet and swimming pool exist. Yet, they won’t let us in. If they’re truthful, they should open the doors now.”
The standoff escalated as water cannons and heavy police presence surrounded the area. AAP leaders later attempted to visit the Prime Minister’s residence but were again blocked.
The controversy arises amid BJP’s intensified ‘Sheeshmahal’ jabs, bolstered by a CAG report alleging a fourfold cost increase in the bungalow’s renovation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized AAP, saying, “While Delhi struggled with Covid, AAP focused on building Sheeshmahal.”
Sanjay Singh countered, suggesting a tour of the Prime Minister’s residence to reveal its lavish costs. Meanwhile, BJP’s Pradeep Bhandari accused AAP of hypocrisy, saying, “Kejriwal promised simplicity but spent ₹52 crore during a crisis. This is pure melodrama.”
The clash marks a heated phase in Delhi’s political battle as elections draw near.
