Rising Claims on Ajmer Dargah
Syed Zainul Abidin Ali Khan, the Sajjada Nasheen of Ajmer Dargah, addressed recent controversies on Thursday. He said anyone could file petitions for publicity or personal interests. He referred to the November 24 Sambhal incident in Uttar Pradesh, where stone-pelting led to the death of five people, including two breadwinners.
He remarked, “Anyone can approach the court, and the court will hear them. Proper evidence is needed before a final verdict. This process is lengthy.”
Personal Interests Behind Controversies
When asked why dargahs are being targeted, Khan blamed personal motives. “People do this for publicity. You cannot stop anyone,” he said.
Addressing claims about mosques, he recalled RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s 2022 statement questioning the search for Shivlings in mosques. He added that such incidents, like in Sambhal, result in severe consequences, yet authorities show no remorse.
Criticism of Governance
AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the lower courts for ignoring the Places of Worship Act. He accused the Modi government and RSS of weakening national unity and the rule of law. He said, “Governance under Modi and RSS is damaging brotherhood. They must answer for incidents like Sambhal, where five lives were lost.”
Court Developments
On Wednesday, a local Ajmer court issued notices to three parties regarding a claim that a Shiva temple exists in the Ajmer Dargah. Advocate Yogesh Siroja, who represents the plaintiff, shared that notices were sent to the Dargah Committee, ASI, and the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
Syed Naseruddin Chishty, Chairman of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council, condemned the growing trend of staking claims on mosques and dargahs. “Every day, groups make such claims. This harms our society. India is progressing globally; we must move beyond temple and mosque disputes,” he said.
