Akhilesh Yadav Supports AAP in Delhi, Calls for INDIA Bloc Unity
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav announced his support for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi’s upcoming assembly elections. He believes AAP has a better chance to defeat the BJP than Congress.
Addressing a press conference, Yadav stated that the INDIA bloc’s primary goal is to strengthen regional parties that can challenge the BJP. “In Delhi, AAP is stronger than Congress. We must back them to achieve our common goal — defeating the BJP,” he said.
INDIA Bloc’s Strategy Explained
Yadav explained that supporting regional parties in areas where they are strong was a key principle of the INDIA alliance. He recalled Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s advice to strengthen regional forces during the alliance’s formation.
“The INDIA alliance is intact,” Yadav said. He clarified that the SP’s decision aligns with the alliance’s core strategy of uniting against the BJP.
Political Tensions in the Alliance
The INDIA bloc includes major parties like SP, AAP, Congress, TMC, and DMK. However, alliance unity came under question after SP and TMC supported AAP over Congress in Delhi.
Recently, Shiv Sena (UBT) announced it would contest the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections alone. This decision fueled speculations about differences within the alliance.
Yadav Slams BJP’s Prosecution Moves
Yadav criticized the BJP government for targeting AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. He referred to the Home Ministry’s prosecution approval against Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case.
“They rule with a dictatorial mindset wherever they are in power,” Yadav said, accusing the BJP of using central agencies for political gains.
The SP leader also emphasized the need to fight BJP’s authoritarianism through united opposition efforts. “The fight is bigger than individual parties. We must stay united to protect democracy,” he said.
As Delhi gears up for elections, the INDIA bloc’s decisions will shape the opposition’s strategy against the ruling BJP.
