Topless in Public Isn’t What Everyone Does
Reflecting on her topless scene in the 1994 short film “The Cloud Door,” Anu Aggarwal shared her initial shock. Speaking in Hindi, she said, “When I first read the script, this scene wasn’t included. I was asked to do the bold scene during the shoot, and I initially refused. I was shocked and asked, ‘What do you mean?’ The issue wasn’t the scene itself or my ability to do it; the issue was that it wasn’t part of the original script and I wasn’t informed beforehand. A month after the shoot wrapped, I started questioning my decision to refuse the scene. I felt it was unethical for them not to inform me when they offered me the script. Being topless in public isn’t something everyone does; it’s different. Eventually, we did shoot the topless scene, but I felt bad about how it happened because of the lack of ethics. I took it on as a challenge, and my family, especially my mom, was very supportive. Being topless isn’t a big deal when we can show people killing and hating each other in films.”
‘A Man, an Actor Needs to Be Daring’
When asked about Ranveer Singh’s bold photoshoot for Paper magazine, Anu, known for her role in the 1990 film “Aashiqui,” said, “I think it’s all good. A man, an actor, needs to be daring. We cross our barriers as actors when we do such things. It’s not just about getting nude or naked; it’s also about being able to cry openly in front of the camera.”
