Kejriwal Confirms: AAP to Contest Delhi Polls Solo
Arvind Kejriwal declared on Thursday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the upcoming Delhi assembly elections independently. He ruled out any possibility of an alliance with Congress.
Speaking outside his residence, Arvind Kejriwal posted on X, “AAP will fight this election on its own strength. There is no possibility of an alliance with Congress.”
AAP Sticks to Its Strategy
This is not the first time Kejriwal has dismissed coalition talks. Earlier this month, he clarified that AAP will contest alone, focusing on securing a third term in Delhi.
Despite reports suggesting ongoing discussions between Congress and AAP under the INDIA bloc, Kejriwal stood firm on his stance.
On Monday, AAP released its second list of candidates. The list features 20 names, including Manish Sisodia, who will contest from Jangpura instead of Patparganj. Educator Awadh Ojha replaces him in Patparganj.
Major Changes in AAP’s Candidate List
In the second list, AAP replaced 17 sitting MLAs with new faces. However, key leaders like Manish Sisodia, Rakhi Birla, and Deepu Chaudhary retained their positions.
Congress Faces Challenges
Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi for 15 years, has struggled in recent elections. It failed to win a single seat in the last two assembly polls.
Delhi assembly elections are expected in early 2025. In the 2020 elections, AAP secured a sweeping victory with 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP won the remaining eight.
Political Criticism Heats Up
Delhi Congress president Devendra Yadav criticized AAP and Kejriwal for the capital’s deteriorating law and order situation. He accused Kejriwal of failing to protect women from rising crimes, including gang wars, murders, and harassment.
Yadav demanded Kejriwal seek the resignation of Delhi CM Atishi, drawing parallels to his demand for former CM Sheila Dixit’s resignation during the Nirbhaya case.
As the elections approach, both AAP and Congress prepare for intense political battles.
