Kejriwal Rejects Alliance for Delhi Elections
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP chief and former Delhi CM, ruled out forming an alliance with Congress or any INDIA bloc partners for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Speaking at a press conference, he stated, “There will be no alliance in Delhi.”
Past collaborations between AAP and Congress had failed. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won all seats despite their alliance. AAP and Congress also attempted seat-sharing before the Haryana Assembly elections but couldn’t finalize a deal, resulting in BJP’s victory.
Attack at Rally Sparks Concerns
During a recent rally in Malviya Nagar, a man threw liquid at Kejriwal, raising security concerns. Reflecting on the incident, Kejriwal questioned, “What was my fault?” and criticized the Centre and Home Minister Amit Shah for failing to ensure law and order.
The liquid, initially claimed by AAP to be spirit, turned out to be water, according to the Delhi Police. The accused, Ashok Jha, reportedly acted out of frustration over unpaid wages. AAP, however, alleged the attack was an attempt to set Kejriwal on fire. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed the attacker was linked to the BJP, a charge BJP dismissed as a “publicity stunt.”
MLA Arrest Raises Questions
AAP MLA Naresh Balyan was arrested in connection with an extortion case. Kejriwal defended him, alleging gangsters were targeting AAP members. “He was a victim of gangster threats and filed complaints earlier,” Kejriwal said.
The arrest followed an audio clip surfacing on social media, allegedly featuring a conversation between Balyan and gangster Kapil Sangwan, discussing extortion from local businessmen. The police continue to investigate the matter.
Political Tensions Escalate
With elections on the horizon, AAP faces mounting challenges, from Kejriwal’s personal security concerns to legal troubles for party members. BJP and AAP remain at odds, fueling an already charged political atmosphere.
