The tension between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Centre escalated on Thursday. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accused the BJP of trying to seize her residence after her alleged eviction.
Addressing a press conference with Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi stated that the BJP could keep the bungalow. She added, “AAP leaders live in people’s hearts.”
She accused the BJP of using various tactics to undermine the AAP government. Atishi also mentioned “Operation Lotus,” a term opposition parties use to accuse the BJP of bribing MLAs to gain power in states it has lost.
“The BJP is scared because it can’t defeat us in elections. When they can’t win, they turn to ‘Operation Lotus’ or imprison our leaders. Now, they want to take the chief minister’s residence. If this makes them happy, let them,” Atishi remarked.
She emphasized that AAP leaders did not join politics for luxury. “We didn’t come into politics for fancy cars and bungalows. We will govern from the streets if needed. The BJP can have the bungalow; we live in people’s hearts,” she asserted.
Atishi took office as Delhi’s chief minister on September 21, following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. Kejriwal stepped down after receiving bail in the liquor policy case. He stated he would return if the people re-elect AAP in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
The AAP claimed on Tuesday that Atishi was evicted just two days after moving into the residence formerly occupied by Kejriwal.
“For the first time in the country’s history, a chief minister’s residence was forcibly vacated. The Lieutenant Governor, at the BJP’s command, removed Atishi’s belongings,” the chief minister’s office alleged.
Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s office, however, denied these claims. According to sources, they stated Atishi stored her belongings before the official allotment of the bungalow and later removed them herself.
