Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle endorsed Kamala Harris’ presidential bid on Friday. The endorsement came in a video featuring a private phone call between the Obamas and the current vice president.
“We called to say Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office,” Obama stated to Harris.
“I am proud of you. This is going to be historic,” added Michelle Obama.
Harris, speaking into her cell phone with a few smiles, expressed her gratitude for the endorsement and their long-standing friendship. “Thank you both. It means so much. And we’re gonna have some fun with this too,” she said.

The campaign confirmed that the video captured the actual call, not a reenactment.
Harris’s surprise campaign against Republican rival Donald Trump is gaining momentum from supporters, donors, and politicians. This surge comes less than a week after President Joe Biden exited the race due to declining poll numbers.
Obama, the first Black president of the United States, remains a beloved figure in the Democratic Party. His continued popularity, over a decade after his presidency, adds significant weight to his endorsement.
Obama has previously supported Biden during major fundraisers, contributing to some of the most significant events of Biden’s campaign. His endorsement is expected to boost Harris’ campaign, generating energy and fundraising support, and he is likely to actively campaign for her once she becomes the presumptive nominee.
Initially, Obama withheld his endorsement despite Biden, his former vice president, designating Harris as his successor. This decision was reportedly to avoid influencing the party’s nomination process.
