The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has taken responsibility for Baba Siddique’s murder and issued a warning. They have threatened anyone who supports actor Salman Khan, near whose home warning shots were fired.
On Saturday night, former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was killed near his son MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra East. Soon after, speculation of the Bishnoi gang’s involvement surfaced. The suspicion was confirmed when Shubuu Lonkar, believed to be gang associate Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, claimed responsibility on Facebook. Although Shubham is in jail, police said his brother, Pravin Lonkar, made the post and was arrested.
In the post, Lonkar claimed that Siddique was killed because of his ties to India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and his closeness to Salman Khan. He also cited the death of Anuj Thapan, who died in police custody after being arrested for a shooting outside Khan’s house.
Thapan’s death in May was labeled a suicide by the police, but his family claimed he was tortured. In his post, Lonkar warned that the gang harbors no personal enmity but anyone who helps Salman Khan or Dawood should prepare for consequences. Police are verifying the post’s authenticity.
Baba Siddique was well-known for hosting lavish gatherings. His 2013 iftar party even brought Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan together after a five-year rift. Sources also revealed that the Bishnoi gang has attacked at least two celebrities linked to Salman Khan since last year. Khan visited Siddique’s hospital on Saturday and later went to his residence on Sunday.
In November 2023, the Bishnoi gang fired shots at Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal’s home in Vancouver, Canada, after Grewal praised Salman Khan. Grewal denied a close relationship, stating he had only met Khan twice.
Similarly, in September 2023, shots were fired near Punjabi singer AP Dhillon’s house in Vancouver. Bishnoi gang member Rohit Godara claimed responsibility, following Dhillon’s release of the video for his song “Old Money,” which featured Salman Khan.
Why Salman Khan?
The Bishnoi gang gained notoriety after Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder in 2022. They have repeatedly stated their intent to kill Salman Khan due to his alleged involvement in killing blackbucks, which the Bishnoi community considers sacred, during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1998. During a 2018 court appearance, Lawrence Bishnoi said, “We will kill Salman Khan in Jodhpur. People will know once we take action.”
Heightened Security
In response to the threat, security has been significantly increased around Salman Khan’s residence, Galaxy Apartments, in Bandra. In April, shots were fired near the house, which Khan believes were orchestrated by the Bishnoi gang to harm him and his family.
Authorities have also tightened security in Malabar Hill, where top political figures, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, reside. Baba Siddique had switched from Congress to Ajit Pawar’s party earlier this year. Increased patrolling and roadblocks are now in place across the area to ensure safety.
