BJP Demands LG to Revoke ‘Sheesh Mahal’ Merger
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to revoke the merger of four government properties with ‘Sheesh Mahal’ (6, Flagstaff Road), which was at the center of the party’s corruption allegations against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
BJP Alleges Unauthorized Expansion
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva claimed that Kejriwal’s official residence was expanded by merging multiple government properties. He urged the LG to reverse the merger and restore the properties to their original status.
“The newly elected government will decide the future of this bungalow, but one thing is certain—our Chief Minister will not reside in it,” he stated.
BJP’s newly elected Rohini MLA, who previously served as Leader of Opposition, reaffirmed that no BJP CM would stay in the bungalow since it is under investigation for alleged irregularities in its reconstruction and luxury upgrades.
BJP’s Attack on Kejriwal’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’
For over two years, the BJP has accused Kejriwal of corruption, claiming the bungalow’s reconstruction featured extravagant interiors, high-end fixtures, and unauthorized expansion.
According to Sachdeva’s letter to the LG, Kejriwal illegally annexed neighboring government properties, turning a standard official residence into a lavish complex spanning over 50,000 square meters.
The merged properties included:
Property Type | Location |
---|---|
8 Type-V Flats | 45 & 47 Rajpur Road |
2 Government Bungalows | 8-A & 8-B Flagstaff Road |
Sachdeva demanded an urgent intervention to restore the properties to their original state and reduce 6, Flagstaff Road back to less than 10,000 square meters.
BJP Calls for Swift Investigation
Senior BJP leader Gupta urged the LG to expedite investigations into the alleged violations. He emphasized that quick action is necessary to ensure accountability and restore public trust in government institutions.
With corruption allegations looming, the future of ‘Sheesh Mahal’ remains uncertain, but BJP insists that it will not serve as the residence of Delhi’s next Chief Minister.
