BJP Clarifies Stance on Kangana Ranaut’s Farm Law Comments
Kangana Ranaut, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Mandi, sparked fresh controversy by suggesting that the repealed farm laws should be reinstated. Her remarks drew strong criticism from the opposition, leading the BJP to publicly distance itself from her statement.
BJP’s Response to Kangana’s Remarks
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia released a statement clarifying that Kangana’s comments on the farm laws were her personal views. He emphasized that she is not authorized to speak on behalf of the BJP regarding these matters.
“Her statement about the farm bills does not reflect the party’s stance,” Bhatia said in a video message. “Kangana Ranaut is not authorized to make such comments, and we disapprove of her views.”
Kangana Acknowledges Personal Opinion
Following Bhatia’s statement, Kangana acknowledged that her remarks about the farm laws were her personal opinion. Earlier, she had told the media that the farm laws should be reintroduced and that farmers themselves should demand their return.
Opposition Reaction
Kangana’s comments quickly garnered backlash from opposition leaders. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja called her “habitually controversial” and questioned her mental stability. He criticized her for making divisive comments on sensitive issues like the farm laws, farmers, and other political topics.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also shared Kangana’s video on social media, condemning her statement. She reminded the public that over 750 farmers lost their lives protesting against the farm laws and vowed never to allow their return.
Congress leader Pawan Khera accused the BJP of deceiving farmers and claimed Kangana’s remarks reflect the party’s “real thinking.”
Past Controversies
This isn’t the first time the BJP has distanced itself from Kangana’s remarks. In the past, the party had disapproved of her statements regarding the farmers’ protests, advising her to avoid making such comments in the future.
Kangana had previously suggested that the farmers’ protests were leading to a “Bangladesh-like situation” in India, citing incidents of violence and unrest.
The Farm Laws
The three controversial farm laws—Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce Act, Farmers Agreement on Price Assurance Act, and Essential Commodities Act—were passed in 2020 and repealed in November 2021 after massive protests. The movement ended only after the laws were withdrawn by Parliament.
Despite the repeal, Kangana’s recent comments have reignited a debate over the farm laws, putting both her and the BJP in the spotlight once again.
