BJP’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’ Campaign Targets Kejriwal Ahead of Delhi Polls
With the Delhi Assembly elections approaching, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Delhi BJP unveiled a poster and a song mocking Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his government’s alleged extravagance.
The poster titled “AAPda-e-Azam” showed Kejriwal’s face morphed onto a Mughal ruler’s body. It accused him of turning his official residence into a lavish palace at taxpayers’ expense.
The accompanying song, “Sheesh Mahal Aapda Failane Walon Ka Adda,” is a parody of popular rapper Honey Singh’s ‘Lungi Dance.’ The song criticizes Kejriwal for spending public money on his residence while ignoring Delhi’s development.
What is the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ Controversy?
The term ‘Sheesh Mahal’ refers to the bungalow at 6, Flagstaff Road, which Kejriwal previously occupied as Delhi’s Chief Minister. The BJP has accused him of spending exorbitantly on the renovation of this residence, calling it an act of corruption.
The BJP claims that Kejriwal, who once promised a simple lifestyle, has now indulged in luxury. The party is using this controversy to portray AAP as a party that misuses public funds for personal comfort.
Delhi BJP’s New Campaign Shared on Social Media
The Delhi BJP unit shared the poster and song on social media, further amplifying their campaign. The party’s official X handle posted visuals of the “AAPda-e-Azam” poster, which portrayed Kejriwal as a Mughal emperor.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said the song narrates the story of Kejriwal’s alleged corruption. Speaking at a press conference, Sachdeva stated, “The person who came to power promising change has modified his own character. Delhiites are looking for development, but Kejriwal is busy abusing them for asking questions.”
AAP Hits Back at BJP
The Aam Aadmi Party didn’t remain silent. AAP leaders responded by pointing out the expenses incurred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence and travel. They argued that the BJP’s accusations were baseless and politically motivated.
Recently, Prime Minister Modi took a direct jab at Kejriwal during the “Parivartan Rally” in Rohini. He dubbed AAP as “AAPda,” meaning disaster, and urged Delhi voters to choose BJP for better governance.
