BJP’s Navya Haridas Challenges Priyanka Gandhi’s Wayanad Victory
BJP leader Navya Haridas has taken Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to court over her recent win in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll. Haridas filed a petition in the Kerala High Court, alleging discrepancies in Gandhi’s nomination papers.
Allegations of False Asset Disclosure
Haridas claims that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not properly disclose her and her family’s assets. She accused the Congress leader of misleading voters by hiding critical information. The petition, filed by Advocate Hari Kumar G Nair, seeks to nullify Gandhi’s election.
“We found multiple discrepancies in her nomination papers. Important details about her assets and her family’s were hidden. This violates the Model Code of Conduct,” Haridas told ANI.
Congress Responds
Congress leaders dismissed the petition as a publicity stunt. MP Pramod Tiwari called it “cheap publicity,” while Manickam Tagore expressed confidence in the petition’s dismissal, stating, “The truth is on our side.”
Priyanka Gandhi’s Declared Assets
In her nomination papers, Priyanka Gandhi declared assets worth ₹12 crore. Her affidavit included ₹4.24 crore in movable assets, such as bank deposits, mutual funds, a Honda CRV, and gold. She also listed ₹7.74 crore in immovable assets, including inherited farmland in Delhi and a Shimla residential property.
Additionally, Gandhi detailed her husband Robert Vadra’s assets, which included ₹37.9 crore in movable assets and ₹27.64 crore in immovable assets.
High Court Hearing Scheduled
The Kerala High Court will hear the case in January after its winter break. Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi’s victory has marked her entry into the Lok Sabha, joining her brother Rahul Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi as MPs.
This legal battle is set to spark a debate on election transparency and asset disclosure in Indian politics.
