BSF Soldier Injured in Ceasefire Violation by Pakistan Ahead of Elections
A BSF soldier sustained injuries in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces along the Akhnoor border on Wednesday. Around 2:35 AM, Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian posts, breaching the 2021 ceasefire agreement. The BSF retaliated quickly, but it’s unclear if there were any casualties on the Pakistani side.
In response, the BSF stated that their troops remain on high alert, keeping a close watch across both the International Border and the Line of Control. This incident adds to the tension as the region gears up for assembly elections. The first phase is scheduled for September 18, followed by elections on September 25 and October 1.

Though ceasefire violations have been rare since the 2021 agreement, this is not the first instance. Last year, a BSF jawan was killed by Pakistani Rangers in the Ramgarh sector, marking the first fatality on the Indian side in over three years.
The latest violation comes at a sensitive time, days before a crucial electoral process in the region.
