BSP to Contest Delhi Elections Alone: Mayawati’s Bold Move
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has made it clear — her party will go solo in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mayawati announced that the BSP is fully prepared to contest all seats independently.
In her post, Mayawati welcomed the Election Commission’s announcement regarding the poll schedule and expressed confidence in the party’s performance.
“The general election for Delhi Assembly will be held in one phase on February 5, 2025. BSP is fighting this election on its own strength with full preparation. It is expected that the party will definitely perform well in this election,” she posted.
‘Elections Are the Backbone of Democracy’
Highlighting the significance of elections in preserving democracy, Mayawati reiterated the BSP’s commitment to uplift marginalized communities.
“Elections are the backbone of democracy. We expect the Election Commission to ensure that these elections are free from communalism and other negative influences, including the misuse of government machinery,” she said.
The BSP leader also issued a strong appeal to voters, urging them to avoid falling for hollow promises made by other parties.
“Voters should not be swayed by any party’s tempting promises. They must use their votes wisely and support BSP candidates who are dedicated to public welfare. This is where public and national interest lies,” Mayawati added.
BSP Faces Challenges from Former Leaders Joining AAP
While the BSP is gearing up for the Delhi polls, it has faced a setback with several former leaders switching sides.
On Tuesday, former BSP leader Madan Mohan and his wife Sudeshwati joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of AAP MP Sanjay Singh. Earlier, Jasvir Singh Garhi, the former Punjab unit president of BSP, also joined AAP on January 1.

BJP, AAP, and Congress Gear Up for Battle
The Delhi elections are shaping up to be a three-way contest between the BJP, AAP, and Congress.
The BJP is focusing on anti-corruption and governance issues, while the AAP aims to highlight its achievements in education and healthcare.
In key constituencies:
- New Delhi Seat: BJP has fielded Parvesh Verma, former MP and son of ex-Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, against Arvind Kejriwal.
- Kalkaji Seat: BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri will challenge Delhi CM Atishi. Congress has fielded former MLA Alka Lamba for this seat.
The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has struggled in the last two elections. It failed to win any seats in 2020, while the AAP secured a massive victory by winning 62 out of 70 seats.
With BSP now in the mix, the Delhi Assembly elections are bound to be an intense political battle. Will Mayawati’s independent push make an impact? Or will the AAP continue its dominance in Delhi? All eyes are on February 8 for the final verdict.
