The registration process for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 has officially begun, with applications open until September 23. Candidates interested in appearing for the exam can register through the official website. This year, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta will conduct the exam on November 24 across 170 cities. Admit cards will be available from November 5.
Application Fee
The examination fee for CAT 2024 has been updated. General category candidates will need to pay Rs 2,500 (previously Rs 2,400), while the fee for reserved category candidates has been increased to Rs 1,250 (previously Rs 1,200).
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for CAT 2024, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s Degree: A minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA for general candidates; 45% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
- Final Year Students: Candidates appearing for the final year of their Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification examination, as well as those who have completed their degree requirements and are awaiting results, are also eligible to apply.
Steps to Apply
- Register: Generate a unique user ID and password.
- Log In: Use the generated user ID and password to access the application form.
- Fill Application: Complete the application form by entering the required details.
- Submit: Make the online payment and submit the application to complete the registration process.
During registration, domestic candidates’ mobile numbers and email addresses will be verified through an OTP. Once verified, the user ID and password will be sent to the registered email and mobile number. Overseas candidates will receive the OTP via email only. Note that once payment is made and the application form is submitted, no changes can be made.
Seat Reservation
As per legal requirements, seat reservations for CAT 2024 are as follows:
- SC Candidates: 15%
- ST Candidates: 7.5%
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 27%
- EWS Candidates: Up to 10%
Exam Pattern
The CAT 2024 exam will comprise three sections:
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
- Verbal and Reading Comprehension
- Quantitative Aptitude
The question paper will include multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and type-in-the-answer (TITA) questions, with a total score of 198 marks.

CAT scores are accepted by 21 IIMs and over 1,000 other MBA institutions. Notable non-IIM B-schools accepting CAT scores include FMS Delhi, SJMSoM IIT Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, DoMS IIT Delhi, and SPJIMR.
