CM Siddaramaiah Faces Criticism Over Bengaluru Cases
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, under fire from the BJP over a recent sexual assault case in Bengaluru, defended his government with pointed remarks. The opposition demanded the resignation of Home Minister G Parameshwara, citing failures in ensuring safety.
Siddaramaiah’s Response
Speaking at a rally in Belagavi, Siddaramaiah questioned BJP’s record on women’s safety. “Were there no rapes during BJP’s tenure? Rape shouldn’t happen, yes. Women must be protected. But society has bad elements. We will act strongly against them,” he stated.
BJP’s Reaction
BJP leaders sharply criticized Siddaramaiah’s remarks. Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan condemned the law and order situation, calling it a failure of the Congress government. “The Bengaluru gangrape case has exposed the state’s poor governance,” he posted on X.
Leader of Opposition R Ashoka claimed the government had failed to ensure public safety. “People live in fear. Girls cannot move around safely. Resign and end this misrule,” he declared.
Police Action on the Case
Bengaluru Police arrested two suspects, Ganesh and Shravan, based on the woman’s complaint. Officials stated the incident involved a disagreement over payment, but a case of rape and extortion was filed. Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed the arrests and assured justice.
Promises of Action
Despite the criticism, Siddaramaiah reaffirmed his commitment to protecting women and taking strict action against offenders. The debate continues as political parties clash over accountability and public safety in Karnataka.
