The Election Commission will announce Delhi Assembly poll dates today at 2 pm. The current Assembly’s term ends on February 15. By then, voters must elect a new Assembly.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is determined to secure a third term. Meanwhile, the Opposition BJP is making a strong bid to challenge AAP’s dominance. Congress, going solo, targets both AAP and BJP.
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s national convener, leads the party’s campaign. He resigned as Chief Minister after securing bail in a corruption case. The 56-year-old insists he will only return as CM after voters deliver their verdict. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also plans to join the cabinet if the party wins. Central agencies arrested Kejriwal, Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendra Jain in corruption cases. AAP calls these actions political vendetta, accusing the BJP of misusing investigative agencies.
AAP highlights its achievements in education and health to secure votes. It also promises Rs 2,100 for women and free medical care for the elderly.
The BJP accuses AAP of corruption and mismanagement. The party claims Kejriwal misused public funds to renovate his residence, predicting AAP’s defeat.
The stage is set for a high-stakes election. Voters will soon decide Delhi’s political future.
