Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva will not contest in the upcoming Assembly elections, sources revealed. Speculation about his candidacy had been circulating, but the BJP is yet to announce its first list of candidates.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already released its complete list of nominees for the polls scheduled in February 2025.
AAP vs BJP: A Fierce Political Battle
The upcoming election will see a tough fight between AAP and BJP. While AAP has held power in Delhi since 2015, the BJP has consistently swept the Lok Sabha polls, winning all seven seats since 2014.
Both parties are engaged in an intense poster war. BJP has accused AAP of voter fraud, while AAP hit back by branding Arvind Kejriwal as the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) in a counter-poster.
Sachdeva’s New Year Jibe at Kejriwal
On January 1, Virendra Sachdeva wrote a letter to Arvind Kejriwal, urging him to give up his “bad habits” of lying and cheating. He asked Kejriwal to apologize for promoting liquor policies in Delhi.
“Delhiites hope you will make a meaningful change this year by abandoning these harmful habits,” Sachdeva wrote.
The exchange came after Kejriwal wrote to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, questioning the BJP’s role in weakening democracy.
Voter List Controversy
AAP alleged that BJP tried to remove 11,000 names from the voter list in Shahdara Assembly to tilt the election in its favor.
“They were caught red-handed,” said Kejriwal, thanking the Chief Election Officer for preventing this deletion.
Sachdeva countered the claim, stating that the voter count jumped suspiciously between the 2014 and 2015 elections. He said the BJP only wants to remove names of dead or relocated voters from the list.
“They are trying to play the same game again,” Sachdeva said, accusing AAP of adding fake voters to boost support.
