Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: A Game Changer in Travel and Connectivity
The much-anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is scheduled to open in January 2025. Spanning over 210 km, the expressway will significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun, cutting it from 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours.
Modern Features for Safer Travel
This six-lane expressway boasts innovative features, including a 12-km elevated wildlife corridor, six animal underpasses, and two elephant underpasses. It ensures smooth travel for commuters while safeguarding wildlife. Additional safety measures include 113 vehicular underpasses, 62 bus shelters, and 16 entry-exit points.
Infrastructure Highlights
Constructed at a cost of ₹12,000 crore, the expressway is divided into four sections. Starting from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Akshardham, it passes through regions like Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur before reaching Dehradun. A 340-meter three-lane tunnel at Datkali, Dehradun, costing ₹1,995 crore, adds to the project’s advanced design.
Economic and Environmental Impact
The expressway is expected to boost regional connectivity, benefiting commuters, tourists, and freight transport. It will also curb migration by improving accessibility to smaller towns. Moreover, the eco-friendly construction underlines a balance between development and conservation.
With its transformative features and focus on efficiency, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is poised to become a model for modern infrastructure in India.
