Delhi Court Rejects Bail Plea in UPSC Cheating Case
The Delhi High Court on Monday rejected anticipatory bail for former IAS trainee Puja Khedkar. She is accused of fraudulently availing extra attempts in the UPSC exam by faking her identity.
The court said Khedkar’s actions were part of a larger conspiracy to manipulate the system. Justice Chandra Dhari Singh stated that this fraud targeted not only UPSC but also society as a whole. Granting her bail, he added, would hinder the investigation.
The bench highlighted that the case revealed a systematic attempt to undermine the credibility of the UPSC process. “The investigation must proceed unhindered to expose the conspiracy,” Justice Singh remarked while delivering the judgment.
Centre Dismisses Khedkar from IAS Service
In September, the Centre dismissed Khedkar from IAS service after an inquiry confirmed the allegations. She was accused of misrepresenting information in her UPSC Civil Services Examination application to claim reservation benefits.
Both the Delhi Police and UPSC opposed her plea for pre-arrest bail. Khedkar, however, denied the accusations, stating she is being wrongly targeted.
The UPSC initiated legal actions against her in July, including filing a criminal case. The Delhi Police booked her under provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, and the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act.
This high-profile case has sparked widespread debate about integrity in the UPSC examination system and the need for stricter regulations to prevent fraud.
