In a landmark ruling, the Delhi High Court granted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently in judicial custody over the alleged liquor policy scam, permission to hold two additional virtual meetings with his lawyers each week. This decision was taken to ensure Kejriwal’s right to a fair trial and effective legal representation.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna emphasized that extraordinary circumstances require special remedies. She pointed out that co-accused Sanjay Singh had already been granted similar relief. The court rejected the government’s demand for separate applications for each of Kejriwal’s numerous legal cases, stating that this would only lead to unnecessary delays and confusion.
Kejriwal, detained in Tihar Jail, is entangled in over 30 legal cases across different states. Although he has been granted interim bail in the money laundering case by the Supreme Court, he remains in custody due to other charges. Kejriwal’s petition highlighted the need for continuous legal consultation to navigate his multiple legal battles.

The court acknowledged that restricting Kejriwal’s legal consultations would effectively deny him the right to a fair trial. The decision to allow additional virtual meetings aims to provide Kejriwal with the necessary legal support to defend himself adequately.
This ruling underscores the judiciary’s commitment to upholding fundamental rights, even for those facing serious allegations. The court’s decision reflects a balanced approach between adhering to policy and safeguarding individual rights.
