Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena distributed job appointment letters to 47 survivors of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The event took place on Thursday in Tilak Vihar, West Delhi.
Six more letters will be given to successors of beneficiaries who have exceeded the age limit for service. This decision came through an official announcement.
Saxena revealed that 437 pending applications are under verification. To speed up the process, he directed the revenue department to organize special camps. These camps aim to resolve applications quickly.
He also announced plans to rename Tilak Vihar colony as “Widows’ Colony.” This move follows recommendations from the residents of the area. Tilak Vihar mainly houses victims of the 1984 riots.
The LG approved a proposal to relax recruitment qualifications for victims’ families. He highlighted the riots as a dark chapter in Indian democracy.
Last month, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee requested Saxena to consider all eligible applicants. This includes individuals who have aged out or passed away, ensuring justice for all families.
