Delhi Polls: BJP and AAP Go Musical in Campaign Battle
As Delhi gears up for the February 5 elections, political campaigns are taking a musical twist. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Opposition BJP have released campaign songs targeting each other, adding rhythm to their rivalry.
BJP’s Rap Attack on Kejriwal
The BJP kicked things off with a rap song aimed at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. The lyrics accused him of leaving Delhi in poor shape and failing to deliver on promises. The song’s caption read, “Delhi is in a bad shape because of a cheat,” setting a confrontational tone for the campaign.
“Delhi ka kiya bura haal ek thug ne,” the BJP Delhi unit tweeted, sharing the rap video that criticized the AAP government’s track record in health and education.
AAP Strikes Back with Bhojpuri Beats
Hours later, AAP hit back with a Bhojpuri campaign song set to the tune of BJP MP Manoj Tiwari’s popular number “Hind ke Sitara” from the Panchayat web series. Tiwari, a former Bhojpuri film star and BJP leader, found his own song reworked to praise Kejriwal’s governance.
“Arre Delhi ke badal dihle soorat, suhaawan khoobsurat na ho. Ae Raja ji, phir se Kejriwal ke zaroorat… aail ba muhoorat ho,” the song lyrics celebrated the AAP government’s achievements in education and healthcare.
The choice of Bhojpuri for the song reflects AAP’s effort to connect with Purvanchali voters, who hold significant sway in Delhi elections. The Purvanchali community comprises people from eastern UP and western Bihar, making it a key voter base.
The Battle for the Capital
Delhi is set for a three-way contest between AAP, BJP, and Congress. With the BJP aiming to unseat the AAP government and AAP pushing for a third consecutive term, tensions are running high.
In the 2020 Assembly polls, AAP secured a landslide victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP managed to win eight seats, while Congress failed to make a mark.
Allegations and Accusations Fly
Amid the musical duel, both parties have leveled serious accusations at each other. The BJP accused AAP of voter list tampering, while AAP claimed the BJP was resorting to dirty tricks to win the polls.
Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT), an ally of AAP in the Maha Vikas Aghadi, also weighed in on the INDIA bloc’s campaign strategy, emphasizing the importance of local elections in strengthening grassroots support.
Campaign Songs: A New Trend in Politics?
The use of music in political campaigns is not new but has taken center stage in recent elections. From catchy rap songs to regional tunes, political parties are leveraging music to connect with voters emotionally.
As the Delhi polls approach, the musical war between BJP and AAP adds a unique flavor to the election season. Whether rap or Bhojpuri beats win the hearts of Delhiites remains to be seen.
