
Delhi Records 41.2 mm Rainfall, Highest in 101 Years
Delhi received 41.2 mm of rainfall the last 24 hours, as of 8:30 am on Saturday. This marks the highest single-day rainfall for December in 101 years, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The previous record for December rainfall was set on December 3, 1923, with 75.7 mm of rain. This recent rainfall also makes December 2024 the fifth-highest month for total rainfall since records began in 1901.
“The 24-hour cumulative rainfall of 41.2 mm is the second-highest recorded at Safdarjung since 1901. This also places December 2024 as the fifth-wettest December,” an IMD official stated.

On Saturday, Delhi woke up to an overcast sky. The IMD has forecasted light to moderate rain and issued a yellow alert for the day.
An active western disturbance, interacting with easterly winds, is responsible for the rainfall and thunderstorms across Northwest and Central India, including Delhi-NCR.
Temperature and Air Quality
The minimum temperature in Delhi settled at 12.7°C, six degrees above the season’s average.
Air quality improved to “moderate” as the AQI reached 152 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. The AQI scale classifies values between 0-50 as “good” and 101-200 as “moderate.”
