Major Administrative Shake-Up in Delhi Ahead of Elections
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered the transfer of 11 senior police officers as the capital gears up for assembly elections next year. The move aims to strengthen administrative readiness before the polls.
Key Police Transfers
Among the officials transferred:
- Abhishek Dhania moved from DCP North-West to DCP East.
- Apoorva Gupta shifted from DCP East to DCP Crime.
- Bhisham Singh reassigned from DCP Crime to DCP North-West.
- Rakesh Paweria transferred from DCP North-East to DCP Headquarters.
- Ashish Kumar Mishra moved from DCP Central to DCP North-East.
The reshuffle reflects efforts to enhance governance and law enforcement before the high-stakes election season.
AAP Aims for a Third Term
The assembly elections, likely to take place in February 2024, will test the Aam Aadmi Party’s governance and public appeal. AAP, currently holding 58 of the 70 assembly seats, has nominated senior leaders like Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj to lead its campaign.
Despite a drop from its 2020 tally of 62 seats due to resignations, AAP remains a strong contender. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ruled out any alliance with Congress, even as both parties are part of the INDIA bloc.
Opposition Strategies
The Congress has announced 47 candidates so far, aiming for a comeback after failing to secure any seats in the previous elections. Meanwhile, the BJP, holding the remaining seats in the assembly, is yet to declare its candidates.
High Stakes for All Parties
The upcoming elections are expected to be pivotal. AAP seeks to solidify its dominance, Congress looks to regain relevance, and BJP aims to expand its foothold in the capital. The administrative reshuffle adds another layer of preparation for what promises to be a fiercely contested election.
