Dilip Saikia Appointed New BJP President in Assam
Dilip Saikia, the 51-year-old Lok Sabha member from Darrang Udalguri, has been appointed as the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Assam unit. Saikia, who has been a dedicated member of the BJP for decades, replaces Bhabesh Kalita in this key role.
A Career Dedicated to Service
Saikia, who first joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a student, has steadily risen through the ranks of the party. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 and successfully secured re-election from the Darrang Udalguri seat in 2024.
Saikia was the sole candidate to file his nomination for the state president’s position by the Thursday evening deadline, solidifying his elevation to the top post.
A Strong Supporter from the Party Leadership
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Saikia on his appointment, praising his dedication and disciplined approach as a party worker from his early days. “Dilip Saikia has added value to every role he has taken on, whether as a Swayamsevak, Karyakarta, or Member of Parliament. His approachable and hardworking nature is cherished by all,” Sarma stated.
A New Chapter for Assam BJP
As the new Assam BJP president, Saikia faces a significant task ahead—leading the party in the upcoming panchayat elections in April, followed by preparations for next year’s assembly polls. His extensive experience within the party is expected to play a key role in ensuring the party’s success in these critical elections.
Bhabesh Kalita, the outgoing BJP state unit chief, expressed confidence in Saikia’s ability to excel in his new role, adding that his deep understanding of the organisation will guide the party to greater success in the future.

Currently serving as the national general secretary of BJP, Saikia has also held leadership roles in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student organisation linked to the RSS.
